Types of cargo we clear and move
Different cargo types carry different documentation requirements, physical handling needs, and regulatory controls. Here is what we handle regularly.
Containerised Cargo
Standard 20ft and 40ft containers, both FCL (full container load) and LCL (less than container load). We coordinate discharge, transit, clearance, and inland delivery to your premises or warehouse.
Break-Bulk & Heavy Lift
Oversized machinery, plant equipment, project cargo, and irregularly shaped loads requiring flatbed or low-bed transport. We arrange the permits, escorts, and route planning these shipments require.
Perishable & Time-Sensitive Cargo
Fresh produce, medical supplies, and production-critical inputs where timing is fixed. Priority clearance workflows and pre-arranged transport keep these shipments moving.
Bulk & Commodity Cargo
Agricultural inputs, fertiliser, fuel, cement, steel, and similar bulk commodities. Tipper and tanker transport arranged as required, with proper documentation for regulatory compliance.

Logistics terms you'll hear from us
If you're new to importing or exporting, these are the terms that come up most often in our conversations with clients. Understanding them helps you make faster decisions.
- HS Code
- The Harmonised System code that classifies your goods internationally. It determines duty rate, VAT, and regulatory controls. Getting it right the first time prevents valuation and release delays.
- CIF Value
- Cost, Insurance, and Freight — the total value used for customs duty calculation. It includes the goods value, transport cost to the border, and insurance.
- Transit Bond
- A financial guarantee that goods moving through one country (e.g., Kenya) will exit to their final destination (e.g., Uganda) within a set period. Failure to exit triggers the bond.
- ASYCUDA World
- The electronic customs declaration system used by Uganda Revenue Authority. Every import and export entry in Uganda is filed through it.
- ICD
- Inland Container Depot — a facility away from the port where cargo can be cleared, stored, and released without being processed at the port itself.
- Bonded Warehouse
- A secure storage facility where imported goods can be held before duty payment. Useful for high-volume importers who want to defer duty until goods are released for sale.
- Demurrage
- A daily charge levied by shipping lines when a container is not collected from the port within its free-time window. Avoidable with early clearance planning.
- Bill of Lading (B/L)
- The core transport document issued by the carrier. It acts as a receipt for the cargo, a contract of carriage, and a document of title. It must match the invoice and packing list exactly.
- FCL & LCL
- Full Container Load (FCL) means one shipment fills a whole container. Less than Container Load (LCL) means your cargo shares a container with other shipments, consolidated at origin.
- Valuation Query
- A formal question raised by URA when the declared customs value appears inconsistent with reference values or market data. Requires documented response before release.
- Release Order
- The document issued after duty payment is confirmed, authorising physical collection of cleared cargo from the port, ICD, or bonded facility.
- Free Time
- The number of days allowed for a container to be collected and returned before demurrage or detention charges begin. Typically 5 to 7 days for standard imports.
